I have lived and worked in Luton all my life. Since 1978 I have worked in the Voluntary and Community sector. I now manage SNAP (Social Needs Awareness Project), an arts and media project which provides positive activities and advice for young people.
I have been a member of the Assembly since its inception about 9 years ago and have been chairperson for 3 of those years. I sit on the Forum, the Local Public Service Board, the Children’s Trust Board and the VISON4YP network. I am also on the Committee for Community Cohesion. One of the initiatives I was involved with was the successful MyPlace application (£4.5m+) for a new and exciting Youth Centre in the town, which is to be managed by the Voluntary and Community Sector in partnership with Luton Borough Council. I feel that the knowledge I have gained would be best utilised by continuing to represent the sector at a strategic level. There are a lot of changes at the moment and I hope that the experience and expertise I have gained will help to maintain the voice and influence of the voluntary sector on the future of our Town.
