Theme Group: Children & Young People Board Creative Vision
I was always interested in working with young people and doing something positive for them. I started working with children while I was at University. I worked for a non-government organisation rehabilitating children and young people. I ran the summer school for Mitalee Youth Association for three. My responsibilities included organising the youths taking part in summer school and it ran successfully. I was a part-time youth worker for Luton Borough Council, working in different youth clubs in Luton. This gave me the opportunity to work young people of different age groups. I worked for Luton Youth Offending Team for two years. I saw closely how children and young people got involved with crime. I have also worked for the voluntary organisation ‘Signpost’. Signpost provides temporary accommodation for homeless people and 85% of the clients are young people. I am vice-chair of ‘Purbachal’ a local community group. Each year Purbachal arranges events which children and young people are involved in. I am secretary of ‘Creative Vision’, which also works with children and young people. Working in different situations and with children of different backgrounds has enabled me to learn many skills that I can bring to this position.
