Why I wanted to be a rep on the Assembly committee: I wanted to represent people’s need for a healthy environment, and knew that my environmental knowledge and contacts would enable me to work with decision makers to make a difference

Theme Group allocation and how this ties in with your personal skills and experience:
The Environment theme group deals with issues I know about, such as protecting trees, green spaces and wildlife areas, recycling, the built environment, public transport, cycling, walking and proposals for house-building and airport expansion.

The Health theme group covers many environmental issues: I strongly believe more should be done to prevent health problems – instead of having to treat people who shouldn't be ill. Food is medicine. People need exercise and a healthier diet, and this must start in schools. I have prepared a report to help people avoid risky chemicals in food and the home.

How do you see yourself influencing decisions within the Forum as a representative on behalf of communities: I read the local papers carefully, and attend many meetings such as Area Committees, Scrutiny, public meetings, and public inquiries, to listen to what people have to say, and discuss issues so I can better represent them. I also subscribe to several journals to keep up with national events, including those affecting all of us such as climate change. I can therefore talk with some authority at a strategic decision-making level.

I am the Editor of a web directory to aid waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable practice, which benefits the whole community: www.wastebook.org
