The Luton Assembly was launched in October 2001. Financially supported by the Government’s Neighbourhood Renewal Fund and Single Community Programme until 2005. It has existed as a Community Empowerment Network and its aim is to provide a coordinated community voice within the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP), to help to shape local priorities, services and delivery.

It operates as a large body of community and voluntary organisations who are registered on Voluntary Action Luton’s database. The 18 person Committee is elected annually on a rolling basis by the wider membership.

The Committee members sit on the LSP and all of its sub groups working on behalf of the Luton Assembly. This has been a very successful method of operating, but as the Committee’s credibility and skills have increased so has the requests for community representation. This has created an increased workload on already very busy representatives.

As the workload increases it has also been recognised that the Committee need to improve their links and communication with the wider Luton Assembly. This was supported by a recent survey sent to Assembly members, when most of the respondents stated that ‘they were unaware of what the Luton Assembly’s purpose was.’

We really want to know what you feel about the Luton Assembly and how it could be improved to work better for you. Attend this event to see the new structure, discuss how you think it will work and network with existing members
