I work in Interfaith and Intercultural Relations, with a particular focus on conflict resolution, peace-building and community building. My work is based at St Mary’s Church in the centre of Luton, and I represent Churches Together in Luton on Luton Council of Faiths (LCOF).
I moved to Luton a few years ago because I wanted to live, work and worship in a multicultural community. My work over the past few years has been to work with others to build understanding and peace between Luton’s faith communities. I enjoy nothing more than to take people across cultural bridges and help them learn to feel at home in world of difference – to tap their feet to a different music, to both laugh and weep as they hear another’s story, and to savour different food.
This past year since joining the Assembly Stronger & Safer Communities Network group, I have served on the Stronger & Safer Board, Luton Forum and the Equalities Inclusion & Cohesion group, and through that been able to contribute to the life of our town. I hope I bring to these groups my understanding of the peoples of Luton, their cultures and faiths and my experience in overcoming the issues that divide communities. Above all, I bring my love for Luton in all its diversity, my passion for its welfare and peace, and a strong desire to help all Lutonians live confidently --and yet humbly -- in a multicultural and plural society.
