Jim has been in the forefront of advocating, developing, marketing and supporting equality, diversity, cultural and community awareness policies, practices and procedures for over 25 years. Jim has worked for colleges, universities, government agencies and departments, local authorities, the voluntary and community sectors, public bodies and private companies across the UK on equality, quality and management issues. He has also worked for public agencies and organisations in North America, Europe and the Caribbean. Jim was educated at the Universities of Luton, Warwick, London, Essex, Hertfordshire and Ruskin College, Oxford. He has a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, BA Hons. In Government and Sociology, Certificates in Counselling, MBA in Business Administration and an Oxford University Diploma in Social and Labour Studies. He has written nearly a dozen publications. For most of his working life, Jim has been involved in struggles for social justice, fairness, equal access and opportunities, human rights and the rights of workers. Jim has been an active trade unionist for over 40 years and worked for the GMB Union as a full-time Regional Education, Research and Public Relations Officer for the London Region. He held Senior Management posts in two London Boroughs and was a National Advisor to Local Government in England and Wales before he became the Director of “Working for Equality” Training and Management Consultancy. Jim has lived in Luton since 1963 and has been a County, Borough and Parish Councillor; a governor of the Universities of Luton and Cranfield; governor of Barnfield and Dunstable Colleges; Chair of governors of Challney High School for Boys and Girls; Non-Executive Director of Health Trusts; member of Employment Tribunals, Social Security Appeals Tribunals and member of the Eastern Region Further Education Funding Council. Jim has been a Labour Parliamentary candidate and an advisor to the last Labour government on education and employment matters. Jim is currently Chair of Luton Committee for Racial Harmony, a member of Luton Assembly Committee and Forum, Trustee of Voluntary Action and Luton Law Centre, National Executive Member of the University and College Union, Ex Chair of the Advisory Group on Policing in Bedfordshire and Trustee of Community Matters a national Charity. Jim is employed as a Trainer and Management Consultant on Employment Law, Equality and Diversity, Community Empowerment, Development and Cohesion, Managing Change and Strategic Management. He is also a writer and has published several articles in national journals. He is currently working on a number of publications including his autobiography, “Race and Trade Unions” and “Europe and the Slave Trade”. Jim is a regular contributor to local and regional media. Jim is married to Doreen who is a retired Deputy High School Head Teacher. They have two grown up children and four grandchildren. Jim is a keen writer, gardener, debater, and supporter of West Indian cricket. His latest book Memories of the 20thy Century (320-pages) is available for sale.
