Working in the voluntary sector in Luton since 1993 and with a real commitment to the town, I have been involved in Luton Assembly almost since its start and gained experience of the structures and jargon! I have skills in grasping the main points of discussion and presenting our ideas succinctly and coherently at the strategic level, resulting most recently in
a) changes being made to the Core Strategy outlining how development will take place in Luton and
b) the Assembly gaining funding from the ‘Stronger and Safer Board’ to fund a development worker for this network.
I would like to remain a representative at this important time as we take forward the work of the Stronger and Safer Network and get recognised the important work done by the voluntary sector in assisting to create cohesive communities in our town. While we have made huge strides in being a recognised voice at the strategic table, I do feel reps still have more work to do in communicating clearly with the organisations we seek to represent- and seek to continue to be a voice for faith groups (who are still finding their place at the table) via my work at Grassroots.
