The Luton Assembly has played an active role in providing a voice for the local voluntary and community sector. During the 10 years it has been in existence, the Luton Assembly has achieved a long list successes

Delivering on Luton’s  Local Area Agreement (LAA) volunteering target and contributing to other LAA priorities, resulting in Luton Assembly receiving £420,000 in reward funding.

SCS

 

Luton’s Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS) – Assembly representatives and support officers developed the strategy as members of the Project team in 2003 as the Community Plan and then as the SCS in 2009.

 

Luton City Status Bid – contributed to the bid document and publicity activities surrounding the campaign. The current Chair of the Luton Assembly was also part of the group who personally delivered Luton's Bid to officials at Downing Street.

Speed Dating Event

 

Networking Events – providing networking and learning opportunities to a wide range of VCS organisations and statutory partners to raise awareness and enable them to work more closely. For example, a comprehensive mapping of the recent budget cuts and a 'Speed Dating' event took place.

Community Involvement Strategy (CIS) – Luton Assembly representative’s and support officers as part of the CIS project management team, ensuring VCS involvement in the development of the strategy and contributing to the writing of the final document.

Re-structuring of Luton Forum –actively contributed to the process of restructuring the Forum to ensure its future effectiveness

The Local Transport Plan – Instrumental in securing amendments to the first draft. -2010

Safeguarding Toolkits

 

 

Safeguarding Toolkit for Children & Young People – Toolkit for VCS organisations working with Children & young people developed by the Assembly support team and consulted on with the wider VCS working with children and young people.

 

Core Strategy – Luton Assembly ran a town-wide consultation and event in partnership with Luton’s Planning Department and made contributions to shaping the strategy.

Stronger & Safer Communities Network

 

Funding for the Stronger and Safer Network – securing funding to expand and support the network and issues related to it.

Dementia Strategy – Luton Assembly representative worked as part of the Project team to develop the final strategy.

TOKKO

 

 

The development of TOKKO -  The Assembly identified the need for a town centre youth hub, then led the successful bid for £4.75 million and is presently project managing the development of the build and will continue to be involved when the TOKKO Centre opens in 2013.

Local Economic Assessment – the Luton Assembly Environment & Economy theme group are contributing to the current LEA skills consultation

Community Chest – Luton Assembly funded the Community Chest programme

Community Cohesion Commission – Assembly representative was a Commissioner on the panel which input to the Final  Report

Neighbourhood Team - add value to the work of Neighbourhood Team of LBC in the activity of Participatory Budgeting

Neighbourhood Strategy – Luton Assembly worked in partnership with Luton Borough Council’s (LBC) Community Development Team to develop the Neighbourhood Strategy

Respect agenda – working with intergenerational respect and understanding programme.

Social Justice Framework Strategy working with strategic partners to develop an effective strategy.

Joint Strategic Needs Assessment – Luton Assembly participated in the consultation process and ensured wider input from the VCS

2008, 2009 & 2010

Luton Assembly developed and continues to coordinate the VCS Children and Young People’s Network, in response to the Every Child Matters Children’s Plan

Carers Strategy – led the voluntary and community sector (VCS) consultation and Luton Assembly representative’s acted as Project team members

- 2008

Working with SAFE to train safeguarding champions and further the safeguarding work through reaching organisations without large support networks for Children and Young People network alongside CWDC.

The development of Family Poverty Strategy - working with statutory partners and VCS during 2010 & 2011 to develop a strategy
